KINGSTON, Okla. (KTEN) - Kingston has thought they had a state title-contending team for three straight years, going undefeated in district play for all of those seasons. Now the Redskins will have to prove themselves even more in Class 3A!
“That week 12 game has been, you know, a heartbreaker the last two years. It’s left us with a lot of questions: what do we need to do different?”
The second round of the postseason has been Kingston’s kryptonite: three straight quarterfinal losses by a combined 25 points have the Redskins wondering what’s wrong. But Head Coach Brad Hill and even his players are taking accountability.
“I’m going to have to do a lot better job as a coach, you know. I listened to Coach Blankenship talk at a coaching clinic about putting things in a file folder of what not to do to lose football games. We are going to have to make some changes to what we have done in week 12. We are going to have to believe as a team that we can get past that. I think our kids do. We are definitely not going to lose the game in the coach's office.”
“A big quarter for us, is quarter three. We come out hot, and after halftime, it seems like it takes us a little bit to get restarted. We’ve gotta really focus on the third quarter, focus through practice and practicing all the way through, and finish strong.”
Kingston lands with the big dogs after jumping from class 2A Division 1 to class 3A. There’s a boatload of Texoma foes and, of course, the back-to-back state runner-up Sulphur in the Redskins district. But there’s no doubt the Tribe is ready to handle their own.
“Every week, you know, we could mess up, make mistakes, and lose, you know what I mean. So, everybody is on the same page; we’re ready.”
“Man, it’s definitely going to be a challenge. Kind of like the SEC, you know, every week will be fun, because you expect single-possession games, great coaches, and really good physical football teams. Hopefully that gets you ready for the teams that come out of our district into the playoffs. Should be tested, because I think Class 3A is really, really deep and not just top-heavy.”
Kingston graduated 15 seniors off last year’s roster, a tough hit, but the Redskins shouldn’t skip a beat with three big men returning, including Blaine Henry and a plethora of skill players. Watch out for the K-town offense in 2026.
“You know we can run the ball, we can throw the ball, we’ve got weapons all around, which is good. Our quarterback, Ethan Mowles, he knows the game; he can throw the ball, he can run it. I just think we are an all-around team, and then even when our starters go out, we’ve got depth.”
