(The Center Square) – One of Wisconsin’s top election managers is getting head of President Donald Trump’s planned speech on election integrity and “some sort of voter fraud.”
Trump on Tuesday said he plans to speak to the nation Thursday night, and while he didn’t offer specifics, he said the speech will be “big.”
“Our country has to shape up. What we’re going to be talking about Thursday, if you don’t have free and fair elections, you don’t have a country.” Trump told reporters at the White House.
Ann Jacobs, the former head of the Wisconsin Elections Commission and current commissioner, moved to head off what she expects to hear from Trump.
"Ahead of whatever the claims are going to be Thursday night claiming some sort of voter ‘fraud,’ I want to remind everyone that in Wisconsin, there is a paper trail for every vote cast. There are no "electronic only" votes cast," Jacobs wrote in a thread on X. "We have found all machines to be tallying the votes correctly! As have the previous audits conducted."
Jacobs has spent years pushing-back against what she has called the president's "conspiracy theories" about the 2020 election.
Jacobs pointed to election audits after both the 2024 and spring election this year a proof of how secure and accurate Wisconsin elections are.
"I'm referring to Trump's upcoming speech. Nothing about Wisconsin specifically. Just reminding everyone about elections in Wisconsin," Jacobs added.
Trump is looking into the 2020 election in Wisconsin, however.
He lost that race by about 20,000 votes but continues questioned the results despite losing two lawsuits and offering no substantiated evidence of fraud.
Election watchdogs in Wisconsin have also questioned the influence of the Mark Zuckerberg-funded Center for Tech and Civic Life, as well as the explosion of indefinitely confined voters in 2020.
Jacobs has defended the 2020 election, and the Elections Commission has said there's never been any evidence presented of widespread, systemic fraud that would have changed the outcome of the 2020 race.
