While consultants have recommended reforms to how Wisconsin addresses mental health in prison, the Wisconsin Department of Corrections reports obstacles in the way of many of the reforms, according to a document obtained by the Examiner. In Wisconsin’s adult prisons, nearly half of incarcerated people have a mental health diagnosis.Ā 

ā€œWe are seeing that more and more individuals that come into our facilities are sicker than many of their peers in the community,ā€ Jared Hoy, secretary of the Department of Corrections, said at a webinar in March.Ā
