CHEYENNE — Laramie County voters will have seven polling locations, open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., to choose from when they go to the polls to vote in today's primary election.
Acceptable government-issued identification is required to register and must also be presented prior to receiving a ballot.
The seven vote centers in Laramie County are: Storey Gym, 2811 House Ave.; Kiwanis Community House, 4603 Lions Park Drive; North Christian Church, 2015 Tranquility Road; David R. Romero Park, 1317 Parsley Blvd.; Laramie County Community College, CCI Bldg, 1400 E. College Drive; Event Center at Archer, 3801 Archer Parkway; and Pine Bluffs Community Center, 708 Lawson St.
The atrium in the Laramie County Governmental Complex is not a polling place on Election Day.
Laramie County Clerk Debra Lee reminds voters to bring their Wyoming driver’s license to register and to use for voter ID. Those who do not have a Wyoming license for registration must provide the last four digits of their Social Security number and present other government-issued documents that prove U.S. citizenship and Wyoming residency. For the complete list of acceptable documents for registration, visit: sos.wyo.gov/Elections/State/RegisteringToVote.aspx. Acceptable identification for voting may be found at sos.wyo.gov/Elections/VoterID.
“When voters come prepared with their IDs and any other required documents, the process goes much more smoothly,” said Lee. She also cautioned that voters who are unprepared for what’s on the ballot will take longer to cast their ballot, which means long lines. This year’s primary election ballot is the longest in Laramie County’s history, with 14 ballot propositions for the 1% specific purpose optional sales tax (sixth penny).
Voters can view and print a sample ballot, see the closest vote centers, and estimated waiting time at each vote center on Election Day, by clicking on the Ballot Lookup button, or by entering their residence address on the Elections page.
Wyoming law allows voters one hour off to cast their ballot in any primary or general election. The hour is at the employer’s convenience, between the opening and closing of the polls, and excludes the meal hour. The law does not apply to employees with three or more consecutive nonworking hours during the time polls are open.
Lee also reminds absentee voters of the 7 p.m. Election Day deadline by which their ballot must be delivered to the clerk. The official ballot drop box, located on the east side of the Laramie County Governmental Complex, between 19th and 20th Streets, is available to voters 24-7 until the legal deadline. Ballots arriving after the deadline will not be counted.
The public can access election night unofficial results by clicking the Election Results button on the Laramie County Clerk’s Elections page following the close of voting, as well as at wyomingnews.com/news/elections/results.
Results are not official until certified by the county canvassing board at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, in the Laramie County Commissioners Board Room, third floor of the Historic Courthouse, 310 W. 19th St.
