Agios Pharmaceuticals AGIO announced that it has discontinued the development of its investigational drug, tebapivat, for the treatment of patients with sickle cell disease (SCD) after phase II study data failed to demonstrate sufficient clinical differentiation from other pyruvate kinase (PK) activators. Following the announcement, the company's shares declined approximately 7% on Tuesday.

Year to date, Agios shares have risen 37.3% compared with the industry’s 1.4% growth.
