The line to get a U.S. passport just got shorter, not longer, and that alone breaks basically everything Americans assume about slow-moving government paperwork. The State Department says it has no reason to expect demand to slow down, yet routine processing is now running faster than it has in years, the kind of turnaround nobody saw coming. Somewhere, a DMV waiting room just lost its best comparison.
