Kentuckian and conservative political commentator Scott Jennings may soon be facing a defamation lawsuit.
Hasan Piker, a progressive Twitch streamer who often discusses politics, toldStatus, a media news site, that he and his legal team were preparing a defamation lawsuit against Jennings and Salem Media, the company that syndicates Jennings’ radio show. Last week, Jennings sharedan edited videoon Aug. 11 of Piker online claiming Piker had said “the USA should resume lynchings against black people.”
ASnopes reviewfound that Piker was sarcastically mimicking others’ opinions and the clips were from hours-long streams and heavily edited without full context.
Jennings, who now frequently appears on CNN to discuss Republican politics, is a former staffer of Kentucky U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell. In recent days, Jennings has becomea rumored candidateto be President Donald Trump’s next press secretary afterKaroline Leavittsaid she plans to leave the role at the end of August.
Jennings’ Aug. 11 post referred to Piker as “Abdul El-Sayed’s best pal and campaign partner.” El-Sayed, a progressive, became theDemocratic nomineein Michigan’s U.S. Senate race earlier this month.
“ive never seen a more clear cut instance of defamation than this in my entire life. blatant disregard for the truth,” Pikersaid on Xin response to one of Jennings’ clips.
Jennings didn’t immediately return a texted request for comment Monday.
