Maine continues to have the highest rate of food insecurity among children in New England, according to the latest data from national nonprofit Feeding America in its annual “Map the Meal Gap” report and data collection.

That means that 20.7% of Maine children, or roughly one in five, were food insecure in 2024. It’s the highest rate in all of New England — a ranking Maine has topped for years — with Connecticut coming in second, with 18.8% of children experiencing food insecurity.
