The new leader of the Catholic church in West Virginia came to the United States years ago as an undocumented immigrant, and he’s spoken against President Donald Trump’s crackdown on immigration, but Rev. Evelio Menjivar-Ayala doesn’t see himself as an opponent to the president. They just have different perspectives and roles, he said. 

“One is political, and another is religious,” he told West Virginia Watch. “He speaks as a president that has obligations that I don’t have — to protect the people, to protect the (U.S.) border, and I have the obligation just to bring the gospel and be a father, a pastor to everyone.
