This year's goal is to raise $75,000 for their mission. The Texas Elks Lodge offers a dinner every Wednesday night. All proceeds go directly to the veterans funds and all food is donated. Every Friday night is steak night starting at 6 p.m. at the lodge which is a big boost for the veterans, said Exalted Leader Brian Nicholson. Every third Saturday is their Vets Breakfast that starts at 7 a.m. and wraps up around 11 a.m.  All veterans and first responders are invited to a free full meal breakfast and others are welcome to eat for a donation of $5. Also, the first Saturday of the month, the lodge hosts the Durango band for fellowship and fun. Nicholson said veterans come in and hang out at the lounge, tell stories, enjoy fellowship and a good meal and it gives them an opportunity to see each other.  The largest fundraiser is the annual Wagons for Veterans which benefits needy and disabled vets and their families.   "We have welcome home kits that we provide for any veterans that are new to the area that need help with essentials around the house; there are some furniture items we can help with, food, anything that a veteran needs to get started when they're new to the area; we take of that for them as much as we can," said Nicholson. "A lot of things that the other veterans organizations throughout the community, they funnel people to us when they need a little assistance other than they can provide, we're here to help them however we can."Â
