BISMARCK, N.D. (KVRR/KFGO) -- North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley is calling on State Sen. Jeff Magrum to withdraw a proposed legislative resolution.
Magrum is seeking presidential clemency for two men convicted in the 1983 shootout in Medina that killed two U.S. marshals trying to arrest Gorden Kahl, a tax evader, for violating his parole.
Wrigley issued a statement Friday criticizing Magrum's proposal on behalf of 73-year-old Scott Faul and 66-year-old Yorie Kahl saying he completely ignores the brutality of their vicious crimes.
Despite opposition from legal officials, lawmakers, and others, the Republican from Hazelton maintains that Faul and Kahl have paid their debt to society after serving more than 43 years in federal prison.
Magrum plans to present the draft concurrent resolution on Monday to Legislative Management for approval for the upcoming special legislative session.
North Dakota lawmakers have four proposals for restricting kratom and more than a dozen on other topics for a special session beginning next month.
That top legislative panel meets Monday to decide which bill drafts from 20 proposals will advance.
The proposals also include a funding fix for the stalled Military Gallery project, data center restrictions and other topics.
The special session is set to start September 2 and lawmakers have a goal to wrap it up in three days.
