(The Center Square) – Chicago Public Schools narrowly passed its budget for the coming school year, despite relying on money from unrealized and unallocated tax dollars from the city and state.

The CPS budget for the 2027 fiscal year is $9.96 billion, relying on mostly local and state funds. The district expected a $732.5 million deficit for the coming year, as spending continues to exceed revenue.
