(The Center Square) – Chicago will not be welcoming the Democratic National Convention in 2028 as it did in 2024.
DNC Chairman Ken Martin released a statement on Thursday saying that Boston, Denver and Philadelphia are the three cities still in contention. Along with Chicago, Atlanta was eliminated from consideration.
Chicago has held the DNC six times.
SBA TO OPEN DISASTER LOAN CENTERS
Chicago and Cook County officials say the U.S. Small Business Administration will establish two Disaster Loan Outreach Centers for residents and businesses impacted by the July 27 severe storms to apply for low-interest loans.
The disaster declaration includes the Illinois counties of Cook and Will, the contiguous counties of DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake and McHenry as well as Lake County in the state of Indiana.
The DLOC location in Hazel Crest will be open from Friday through Sept. 4. The Chicago location will be open from Thursday through Sept. 3.

DU QUOIN COUPLE ARRESTED FOLLOWING DAUGHTER’S DEATH
A Du Quoin couple is facing charges including involuntary manslaughter after the death of a 1-year-old girl.
Amanda Russell, 28, and Michael Russell, 34, were arrested on Tuesday.
Police say a death investigation revealed that the couple’s daughter suffered severe burns over a large portion of her body and had not been taken to a medical center for treatment.
STUDY: ILLINOIS NOT AMONG MOST EXPENSIVE FOR HEALTH CARE
A recent study has found Illinois is not among the most expensive places in the country when comparing health care costs to income.
Researchers at MediFind ranked Illinois 31st among 50 states in an analysis measuring per-capita expenditure on health care services and prescription drugs against median income.
West Virginia had the highest percentage with health care expenditures taking 16.14% of income. Utah was the least expensive at 6.81%. Illinois’ number was 11.03%.
