(The Center Square) – Arkansas-based Tyson Foods has announced plans to end operations at the company’s beef facility in Joslin, Illinois, impacting about 2,500 workers east of the Quad Cities.
According to a company statement, Tyson will anchor its beef business around three facilities in Nebraska, Kansas and Texas amidst a major cattle shortage.
Tyson also plans to shut down its case-ready facility in Eagle Mountain, Utah.
FUEL PRICES KEEP RISING
Gas prices are on the rise in Illinois and around the country.
According to AAA, the average Illinois price for a gallon of regular unleaded was $4.33 on Friday, up from $4.28 the previous Friday. The current Illinois price is 89 cents higher than it was one year ago.
The national average on Friday was $4.08, up from $4.04 the week before and $3.16 one year ago.
27 YEARS FOR MAN WHO TRANSPORTED MINOR FOR SEX
A Will County man who transported a minor to Illinois from Iowa to engage in criminal sexual activity has been sentenced to more than 27 years in federal prison.
Prosecutors said Ryan Zelek, 33, of Wilmington communicated with a 13-year-old girl on Snapchat, picked up the girl in Iowa and drove her to his Illinois residence, where he sexually assaulted her.
Law enforcement later discovered thousands of images and videos of child pornography on Zelek’s devices.
Zelek was also ordered to pay $54,298 in restitution.

COAL VALLEY MAN ACCUSED OF PREDATORY ASSAULT OF JUVENILE
Illinois State Police have arrested a Coal Valley man for allegedly committing a sexual crime against a juvenile. Dalton Ballard, 23, was taken into custody on Thursday after the alleged crime was reported to Coal Valley police Aug. 2.

The Chicago Air and Water Show is expected to bring thousands of people to the Lake Michigan shoreline this weekend.
