Dr. Greg Mobley, veterinarian, friend, and lover of animals, is retiring after 46 years of hard work, long nights, muddy cattle lots, helping animals give birth, caring for them through all stages of their lives, and assisting those whose time was coming to an end. His family and coworkers hosted a retirement party last Saturday with friends, farmers, customers, neighbors, and admirers joining him for stories, laughs, hugs, and a few tears, while enjoying a delicious cook-out luncheon.
Greg is a 1971 graduate of Moravia High School and a 1980 graduate of Iowa State University. For the first ten years of his career, he worked in various clinics in several states before landing back where home was, Monroe County, and he’s been here ever since. He and his wife Kathy, along with their daughter Ariel, have been an integral part of the Albia community and the surrounding areas.
From the largest farm animals to the smallest newborn kittens, Dr. Mobley cared for every creature as if it was his own. But he didn’t just care for the four-legged patients, he cared for the owners as well, with humor and compassion. He knew his clients by name, both animals and their owners. He has been so much more than a gifted doctor, he’s one of the truly good guys, a part of everyone’s family. The clinic has also helped hundreds of dogs and cats find forever homes and reunited lost pets with their anxious families.
Albia Animal Clinic will now be in the capable hands of gifted young veterinarian, Dr. Maddi (Tyrrel) Ballard and the remarkable staff that cares for customers and their animals with so much heart. The clinic will continue to welcome both large and small animal patients, from livestock to pets. And they will do so with the caring example that Greg Mobley has set for nearly five decades.
