NUEVA ORLEANS, LA.- Con el inicio oficial del ciclo escolar en Louisiana, las escuelas públicas y universidades estatales avanzan en la aplicación de la ley HB 71. La medida convierte al estado en el primero del paÃs en exigir la presencia obligatoria de los Diez Mandamientos en cada salón de clases, abarcando desde el nivel infantil y primaria hasta la secundaria y la educación superior.
El respaldo jurÃdico para su ejecución se consolidó tras la reciente decisión del Tribunal de Apelaciones del Quinto Circuito de Estados Unidos. El pleno de jueces resolvió, con una votación de 12 a 6, levantar la suspensión cautelar previamente dictada por un juez de distrito. Los magistrados determinaron que la demanda presentada por un grupo de padres era prematura, permitiendo la vigencia de la ley mientras continúa el proceso legal sobre su constitucionalidad.
En contraste, agrupaciones defensoras de derechos civiles como la Unión Estadounidense por las Libertades Civiles (ACLU), Americans United for Separation of Church and State y la Freedom From Religion Foundation mantienen su ofensiva legal. Las organizaciones advierten que la imposición de este texto de origen judeocristiano en salones multiculturales no considera la Primera Enmienda, la cual garantiza la libertad religiosa y prohÃbe el establecimiento de una religión oficial por parte del gobierno.
