SHREVEPORT, La. — Independence Day festivities continued Sunday at the American Rose Center as families gathered for the Red,White & Blooms event, celebrating the nation's 250th anniversary while highlighting the rose as America's national floral emblem.
Â
The event began at 4 p.m. and featured live music, local vendors, food, a car show and a fireworks display to cap off the evening.
Â
Executive Director Beth Smiley said the event gave families an opportunity to enjoy the gardens while celebrating the holiday weekend.
Â
"It's been great. There are a lot of families and people just hanging out. We love that everyone is also discovering the garden a little bit and enjoying the music. You can't get a better reason to come out here," Smiley said.
Â
Organizers said the Red, White & Blooms event combined history, education and family-friendly activities as the community extended its Independence Day celebrations through the weekend.
