SHREVEPORT, La. - Several long-troubled apartment complexes in Shreveport are now up for auction, marking a significant development in the city's ongoing efforts to address blighted properties.
The properties being auctioned include the David Raines Apartments, Villa Norte Apartments, and Linwood Apartments, formerly known as Kings Manor. Bidding for those complexes opened with a starting price of just $1. The Pines Apartments, another property included in the auction, began with a starting bid of $200,000.
The auction follows previous legal action taken by the City of Shreveport against the landlord over conditions at the properties. City officials have spent years working to address concerns related to the deteriorating complexes, which have been the subject of public complaints and litigation.
Supporters of the effort say the auction represents an opportunity for new ownership and potential redevelopment of the properties, which have long been considered eyesores and public safety concerns.
The auction is being conducted through the commercial real estate marketplace Crexi, where additional information about the properties and bidding process is available. The bidding is scheduled to conclude Wednesday.
City leaders are hopeful that the sale of the properties will pave the way for revitalization efforts and improved housing conditions for residents in the affected areas.
