BEHIND THE BADGE WITH SPONSOR

SHREVEPORT, La. - To a casual observer, the gathering might look like nothing more than a group of old soldiers trading tall tales over a warm meal. But for the retired firefighters of Shreveport, their bimonthly luncheon is a lifeline - a sanctuary for a band of brothers in the autumn of their lives.

For decades, these men answered EMS calls and charged into burning buildings across the city, risking their lives for strangers. Some retired as far back as the 1970s and 1980s, while others served 30-year careers together. Now, they gather every two months to break bread, reminisce, and hold onto a bond forged in fire.
