BOSSIER CITY, La. — Bossier Parish teachers and employees will receive a one-time supplement in January after the Bossier Parish School Board approved the payment Thursday night.
The New Year bridge supplement is intended to provide financial relief between the Dec. 18 and Jan. 25 paychecks, according to the school system.
Educators and other certificated employees will receive $2,000, while support personnel will receive $1,000. The payments are scheduled for Jan. 8.
The supplement marks the third board-approved supplement increase for every full-time Bossier Parish Schools employee since June. In total, certificated employees will have received $2,875 in supplements, while support personnel will have received $1,625.
“Our board deserves to be commended for taking this action that goes above and beyond what was required of them,” said Bossier Schools Superintendent Jason Rowland. “By approving the New Year Bridge Supplement for all employees, they demonstrated their unwavering belief in the people who make our school system exemplary. Every individual in Bossier Schools contributes to educating our children, whether they are in the classroom, driving a bus, preparing meals in the cafeteria, maintaining our campuses, or supporting students behind the scenes."
The school board's action comes after Gov. Jeff Landry issued an executive order in June directing $168 million in Minimum Foundation Program money toward one-time stipends of $2,000 for classroom teachers and $1,000 for support staff during the 2026-27 school year.
The executive order excluded several groups of school employees and specialized professions that had received supplements in previous years, including school nurses, counselors, therapists, principals and assistant principals.
Bossier Parish School Board Finance Chair Eric Newman said the board chose to provide the supplement to all full-time employees.
“We chose a different path, one that recognizes the value of every person who serves our children,” said Newman. “Our board’s decision reflects a deep respect for the educators and staff at Bossier Schools and reinforces that we succeed as a team. Everyone plays a role, because at Bossier Schools everything matters.”
