CULLEN, La. — The Town of Cullen's financial crisis has escalated to the point that police officers, town employees and elected officials have gone unpaid as municipal bank accounts remain frozen under state and federal tax levies tied to years of unpaid taxes.

The financial problems are happening as the town is still undergoing an investigative audit by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor's Office. The completion date is unknown.
