OKLAHOMA CITY — Early voting began Thursday in Oklahoma’s primary runoff elections, setting the stage for several key statewide races and two constitutional questions.
Voters will decide contests for state superintendent and the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate, along with a closely watched Republican runoff for governor between Attorney General Gentner Drummond and former state Sen. Mike Mazzei.
The governor’s race has drawn the most attention as Republicans choose between Drummond, the state’s top law enforcement official, and Mazzei, a former legislator and fiscal conservative.
Two state questions are also on the ballot.
State Question 844 would allow lawmakers to revise the formula used to reimburse local schools and communities for certain property tax exemptions. Supporters say the change would give the state more flexibility in funding decisions, while opponents have raised concerns about potential impacts on local budgets.
State Question 846 would amend the Oklahoma Constitution to require proof of identity for all voting methods. If approved, lawmakers would determine which forms of identification would be accepted.
Early voting will continue through Saturday ahead of Election Day.
