BOSSIER CITY, La. — The Krewe of Gemini officially unveiled "Retro Rewind" as the theme for its 38th Mardi Gras season during a celebration Saturday night at the Krewe of Gemini Den.
Â
Members gathered as a brightly colored banner was revealed, announcing a season inspired by the music, television, movies and culture of the 1970s. During the event, Krewe Captain Patrick Gallagher also announced the themes for the organization's individual floats.
Â
The theme announcement party featured food, musical bingo and fellowship among members as they looked ahead to the upcoming Mardi Gras season.
Dana Fergins-Hawthorne, secretary of the Krewe's board of directors, said the theme reflects Gallagher's personality and the spirit of the organization.
Â
"It fits our captain," Fergins-Hawthorne said. "It is truly Gemini."
Â
Gallagher said the theme is designed to appeal to members of all ages while celebrating a decade that left a lasting impact on popular culture.
Â
"This kind of theme gets everybody involved," Gallagher said. "It gets the older people involved down to the younger people. When I was growing up in the late '60s and early '70s, my siblings introduced me to all the good music and movies and TV shows, and I thought it would be something we could share with the rest of the krewe."
Â
Reigning Gemini Queen XXXVII Bernie Bitting said she is eager to see how the decade will be represented on the parade floats.
Â
"The '70s had some of the best TV shows," Bitting said. "The music was wonderful, so I can't wait to see all of the floats."
Â
The Krewe of Gemini has already released its 2026 Mardi Gras calendar. The first major event of the season will be the krewe's coronation, scheduled for July 25 at Live! Casino & Hotel Louisiana in Bossier City.
