HOMER, La. - On the shores of Lake Claiborne, a local establishment is pairing generous Southern comfort food with waterfront views, attracting both weekend campers and long-time residents across the Ark-La-Tex.
Kel's Kove, an eater, marina, and campsite located along Lake Claiborne, has quickly become a standout destination for visitors flocking to the area's natural attractions.
Among the restaurant's signature offerings are its oversized, hand-pattied cheeseburgers, which have earned praise for both flavor and scale.
"We hand-patty our burgers, and they're thick and juicy."
In addition to burgers, the menu features heavy-duty comfort staples, including chicken-fried steak, a popular "buffalo baked potato" topped with chicken, bacon, and hot sauce, as well as a variety of salads and sandwiches. The large portion sizes frequently lead diners to split meals or pack leftovers.
"The first time I came here, I ordered four [burgers], and we ended up taking two in a to-go box," said a local diner.
Beyond the kitchen, local patrons and visitors emphasize that the establishment's prime waterfront location is a major driving force behind its popularity
Situated directly on Lake Claiborne, the venue offers panoramic water views alongside an on-site general store stocked with camping, fishing, and boating supplies.
For many visiting the lake - whether staying at local camps or traveling from nearby cities like Ruston and West Monroe - Kel's Kove serves as a central hub for family gatherings and weekend getaways.
"You can have a hamburger anywhere, but you can't get one on this lake with that view. That's a big reason people come."
