BATON ROUGE, La. — The number of confirmed cyclosporiasis cases in Louisiana has almost doubled in just one week, according to state health department data released Thursday.

The Louisiana Department of Health reported that as of Thursday, July 16, there have been 55 confirmed cases of the parasitic infection, which is known to cause weeks of watery diarrhea. No new hospitalizations have been reported since last week, when health officials reported that one person had been hospitalized with the parasite.
