NATCHITOCHES, La. — The Natchitoches Parish School Board has approved a series of new rules and policy shifts for the upcoming school year targeting student discipline, dress code standards and teacher compensation.
Students caught with cellphones or THC vapes will now face strict new penalties. Under the approved guidelines, the discovery of these items will result in the mandatory removal of the student from campus.
In a major shift for the district’s dress code, officials are removing all restrictions on student hair color. Board members indicated the change is intended to allow the district to focus more directly on classroom learning rather than policing student appearance.
The board also addressed staff compensation by approving an updated salary schedule for teachers. The new pay structure includes specific stipends designated for those working within special behavioral programs.
