PLAIN DEALING, La. (KTBS) — Nearly one year after 32-year-old Cable Tallant disappeared in Bossier Parish, investigators say they have not given up hope of finding answers and are asking the public to come forward with any new information.
Tallant vanished last August after he was last seen at a gathering in the area. His truck was later found abandoned on Old Plain Dealing Road near Plain Dealing, prompting an extensive search involving local, state and volunteer agencies.
For three days, dozens of first responders searched difficult terrain using K-9 teams, drones, and a helicopter, but found no trace of Tallant. The Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office eventually suspended the ground search, saying every available lead had been exhausted.
Even so, the investigation has never been closed.
"It's an open investigation," Sgt. Matthew Bertrand with the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office said. "We're still actively looking for intelligence on it, looking for information. If something comes up, if someone remembers something or sees something they recognize is tied to him, of course we're going to investigate that."
Bertrand said it is not uncommon in missing person cases for investigators to locate a vehicle or another personal item without immediately finding the missing person. In Tallant's case, however, deputies found only his truck.
"We did essentially everything we could do with what we had," Bertrand said. "Up until now, we still ... are actively looking for information."
Bertrand acknowledged cases like Tallant's can be frustrating for investigators, especially when early evidence appears promising but does not lead to answers.
"When we get something that kind of points us in a direction, of course we get our hopes up," he said. "We want to solve these cases. We want to find these people."
"But when you run into that dead end, it's discouraging," Bertrand added. "That doesn't cause us to give up. When new evidence comes up, we'll jump on that."
As the anniversary of Tallant's disappearance approaches, the sheriff's office is asking anyone with information — even if it seems insignificant — to contact investigators.
"We aren't done with this," Bertrand said. "We want to do what we can to help find this individual."
Anyone with information about Tallant's whereabouts or disappearance is asked to contact the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office at (318) 965-2203.
