SHREVEPORT, La.-- Shreveport resident Danny Cochran is no one-hit wonder.Â
He returned to the City Council meeting Monday with his neighborhood concerns expressed through jazz and original lyrics. He got the idea last month, which was his first time to present his complaints in a unique way through song.Â
Monday, Cochran pointed out problems with overgrown grass, hidden fire hydrants and deteriorating roadways in the predominately Black neighborhoods of Hollywood, Cedar Grove, Mooretown, Hollywood Heights, Queensboro, Lakeside, Allendale, Cooper Road and Stoner Hill.
Cochran’s song emphasized tall grass concealing critical utilities. He noted specific locations where fire hydrant covers are buried, such as near Shepherd and Patsman streets in Allendale and near Wallace and Oakdale streets in Hollywood.
He also detailed several specific traffic and roadway hazards: Pavement buckling on Linwood Avenue, critical road conditions along the 1600, 1700, and 1900 blocks of Clanton Street, and a lack of pedestrian sidewalks along Pines Road.
Following his performance, Shreveport city council members reassured Cochran that upcoming bond-funded projects will address local neighborhood streets in the coming months.Â
