SHREVEPORT, La. - The City of Shreveport is preparing to launch its local America 250 celebration with a family-friendly event in the Red River District later this month.
Shelly Ragle, director of SPAR, said the kickoff event will take place Friday, May 29, as part of the nationwide celebration leading up to America’s 250th anniversary.
The celebration, called “Red, White and Boom,” will feature food specials from restaurants throughout the Red River District, along with food trucks, snow cones, and activities for children and families.
Families attending the event can also enjoy indoor putt-putt golf and live music throughout the evening. Organizers say one of the biggest attractions will be a laser show under the bridge, something the city has not hosted in many years.
“For the first time in a very, very long time, we’re having a laser show under the bridge,” Ragle said. “It’s going to be so much fun.”
The first 500 children attending the event will receive a free red, white, and blue Bomb Pop popsicle.
Festivities begin at 5 p.m. The laser show is scheduled to start around 8:15 p.m. Live bands will continue performing until 10 p.m.
