MINDEN, La. — Webster Parish police jurors have authorized nearly $40,000 in additional upgrades for the parish's new women’s jail facility.
Construction on the $5 million project is currently on track to be finished by the end of September. The 66-bed facility is located on Penal Farm Road in Minden.Â
Female inmates are currently housed on the top floor of the Webster Parish Courthouse. Plumbing and electrical problems have plagued the holding area for years.Â
While progress continues on the jail, the Webster Parish Police Jury also addressed infrastructure concerns regarding an upcoming bridge project on state Highway 159. Police jurors expressed worry over the length of detours residents will face once work begins on Aug. 27.
The Police Jury did not announce specific alternative routes during the meeting but noted that the project's impact on local traffic remains a primary concern.
