BASIN, Wyo. — Investigators in Big Horn County are taking another look at a death near Basin that has gone unsolved for more than five decades.
The Big Horn County Coroner's Office reopened the case of a young man who was found dead in the Greybull River in 1973. Investigators said that little documentation remained from the original case and that they had not found a law enforcement report.
The man was believed to have been between 18 and 26 years old. Investigators said he had brown hair, brown eyes and a red mustache.
Several items were found along the riverbank. They included a gold ring with the initials "M-K" a pair of prescription Ray-Ban sunglasses and moccasins.
Investigators said the death was suspicious and could have been a homicide. The man was never identified and was buried as John Doe at Basin Cemetery.
The coroner's office is now asking people who remember the case or recognize the items to come forward.
