Black bear cubs were spotted in Butte-Silver Bow County. Montanans and visitors are encouraged to make noise, hike in groups, carry bear spray and back away slowly from any encounters as bears prepare for hibernation.

BUTTE, Mont. – Nine miles south of Butte at Thomson Park, two black bear cubs were spotted. Residents are urged to stay bear aware.

Montana reached the season when bears enter a period of intense, all day feeding to pack on fat before winter hibernation.
