A rural neighborhood outside Frenchtown is seeking to create a water district this fall to help pay for backlogged maintenance, as more than $5 million is needed to bring the system back up to state standards.

The Sorrel Springs neighborhood north of Frenchtown currently has a home owners association (HOA) that manages its water system, but additional homes and little capital improvements have led to several water main breaks and few upgrades for fire protection.
