DEER LODGE -- The rhythmic clatter of hooves and the creaking of leather harnesses filled the air over the weekend during the 31st annual Big Sky Draft Horse Expo in Deer Lodge.
With an audience in the grandstands and light rain, horses and mules hitched to wagons weaved their way through mud as they received applause from the crowd.
The event was slated for three days beginning Friday and ending on Sunday with a grand finale.
Saturday saw multiple events like four-up obstacle driving, four-abreast, classic cart and many more throughout the day.

Events started at 8 a.m. on Saturday and were set to finish at 9 p.m. after a second performance.
Manes waved in the air as the horses trotted their way around the courses and teamsters held their own steering, stopping and pushing their over 1,000-pound teammates.
Others waited their turn getting prepped by their owners inside the Blue Ribbon Pavilion at the Tri-County Fairgrounds.
Manes were braided, hair was brushed and noses were patted.
