A jury ruled Thursday afternoon that employees of Kalispell School District 5 retaliated against a parent for reporting that one of his son's friends had been sexually assaulted by fellow wrestlers on the high school team.

The trial started Monday and took place in Missoula's federal court before Magistrate Judge John Johnston. The plaintiffs, Clifford Nance, and his father, Kirk Nance, filed the lawsuit at the center of the trial in January 2025 alleging retaliation for reporting claims of sexual harassment on the Glacier High School wrestling team during the 2022 season. The federal Title IX statute prohibits retaliation for reporting sexual harassment.
