Montana Highway Patrol on Wednesday released information about a head-on collision near Wolf Creek earlier this month that killed a Texas man who was driving in the wrong direction.
The crash happened July 7 on Interstate 15 near the Wolf Creek exit.
According to an MHP crash report, a 67-year-old man from Victoria, Texas, was driving a Ford Econoline van southbound in the northbound lane of traffic.
As the van navigated a curve in the road, a Freightliner driven by a 27-year-old Helena man was coming northbound around the curve. The van driver swerved right, while the truck driver swerved left and the two collided head-on.
The 67-year-old van driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, according to MHP, was killed in the crash. He was identified by the Lewis and Clark County coroner as Buck Shedd. His cause of death was blunt-force injuries.
A 37-year-old woman from Pablo who was a passenger in the van was injured and taken to a Helena hospital. The Helena truck driver was also taken to a Helena hospital for his injuries.
The MHP report said both alcohol and drugs were suspected in the crash.
