In 1986, downtown Missoula was a much quieter place than it is now. So, the Missoula Downtown Association's first full-time employee helped launch a new event in Missoula that year called Out to Lunch as a way to get people to gather and enjoy the downtown area.

That employee was Pat Simmons, the mother of Oscar-winning actor J.K. Simmons.
