The owners of second homes and short-term rentals in the city could pay twice as much in City of Missoula property taxes this fall because of state tax changes, officials said Wednesday.

As the city continues deliberating its fiscal year 2027 budget, city staff said the new state rules will lower property taxes on owner occupied homes and move that burden onto second home owners.
