Concentrations of tech companies in Montana

A map showing concentrations of members of the Montana High Tech Business Alliance.

Montana's high-tech industry grew twice as fast as the overall state economy from 2014 to 2024, increasing its share of the state's gross domestic product from 3.6% to 5% annually. And most tech firms in Montana say AI usage is widespread and either moderately or extremely strategic to their future growth.

That's according to a new report released recently by the Montana High Tech Business Alliance and the University of Montana's Bureau of Business and Economic Research. They asked over 200 tech firms to participate in a survey, including 122 firms that aren't members of the Alliance, and got 70 companies to respond. The bureau also studied tax and revenue data from the entire statewide industry.
