A Montana court ordered the state to pay more than $1.3 million in attorneys' fees after plaintiffs won their challenge to a ban on gender-affirming care for transgender youth.
MISSOULA, Mont. — A Montana court has ordered the state to pay more than $1.3 million in attorneys' fees after plaintiffs prevailed in their challenge to the state's ban on gender-affirming care for transgender minors.
The Fourth Judicial District Court issued the order in Cross v. State of Montana, requiring the state to reimburse the plaintiffs' legal costs.
Last year, the court ruled that Senate Bill 99 violated the Montana Constitution and permanently blocked the law from taking effect.
The state is expected to appeal the decision to the Montana Supreme Court.
