POLSON, Mont. — Providence St. Joseph Medical Center says a new $550,000 grant is helping move its larger $26 million transformation project forward in Polson.
According to a June 30, 2026 press release, the money came from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust and raised the hospital’s Critical Access Campaign total to $16 million. Providence has said the campaign’s philanthropic goal is $18 million.
Providence said work was already underway on the first phase of the project, a new rural health clinic expected to be fully in use by October 2026. The hospital said donations covered the clinic’s full cost.
When that clinic opens, Providence said primary care staffing will grow from four providers to seven while behavioral health staffing will rise from two to five. Plans also call for four more behavioral health rooms and a private waiting area for those patients.
Providence said the added space is expected to make room for 7,000 more visits each year across primary care and behavioral health services.
Providence said future phases of the campaign include an emergency department renovation and plans for a new MRI suite inside the hospital. The hospital said those upgrades are intended to improve comfort, strengthen care and update key services for the Flathead and Mission valleys.Â
Caryl Perdaems, chief administrative officer at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center, said the award comes at a time when rural communities are trying to meet growing healthcare needs close to home.Â
