POLSON, Mont. — A crash on Main Street north of U.S. Highway 93 in Polson left one person dead Sunday.
Officers responding to the August 9 crash said a vehicle driven by Thomas Redmond Jr. hit a parked vehicle while turning from the highway.
The impact pushed the parked vehicle into Howard Wilson while he was walking between that vehicle and another that was parked, police said.
Wilson suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
“First and foremost, our thoughts are with Mr. Wilson’s family and loved ones as they cope with this tragic loss,” said Polson Police Chief George Simpson. “A fatal crash affects an entire community, and our officers are working diligently to determine exactly what happened. We will conduct a thorough investigation and pursue the appropriate charges based on the evidence.”
Investigators said drugs and/or alcohol and speed may have contributed to the crash. Redmond was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and or drugs and was later charged with vehicular homicide while under the influence.
