Recent Heatwave In Montana Puts Local Trout Populations At Risk

Trout Unlimited is advising the public to fish cautiously this summer and to watch the water temperatures where they are casting.

BOZEMAN, Mont. — Hot summer temperatures along the Gallatin River are raising concerns about trout not only throughout the state, but also near Cameron Bridge, a popular fishing access site in Bozeman.

Montana Water Director for Trout Unlimited Patrick Byorth is urging anglers to pay attention to water temperatures during the summer. He said that trout can die when water temperatures rise above 68 degrees, as the species of fish thrive in colder temperatures closer to 55 degrees Fahrenheit.
