MISSOULA, Mont. — Missoula police said a 39-year-old man was taken into custody in connection with a fatal stabbing investigation that began early Tuesday morning.
Officers were sent just after 2:30 a.m. to the 500 block of North California Street after reports of an adult man with stab wounds. Police and emergency crews began life-saving efforts there before the victim was taken to a local hospital, where he died, police said in a release.
Investigators said they believed the case was isolated and that the victim and suspect knew each other.Â
The suspect was identified by police as Jeremy Means. Just before 9:30 a.m., SWAT tried to find him at a home in the 500 block of West Spruce Street but did not locate him, police said.
A shelter-in-place was issued for the immediate area while officers worked the scene. Just before 1:30 p.m., a detective assigned to the FBI Montana Regional Violent Crimes Task Force found Means in the 800 block of Wyoming Street, police said.
Means was taken into custody and remanded to the Missoula County Detention Facility on a deliberate homicide charge.Â
