BEE COUNTY — A Beeville man will serve seven and a half years in federal prison after leading law enforcement on a high-speed motorcycle chase that ended in a crash near the Bee County line. Â
William Wilson III, 39, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge David Morales to 90 months in federal prison, to be immediately followed by five years of supervised release. Wilson entered a guilty plea on May 19 to charges of possession with intent to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine. Â
Federal authorities said the encounter began Jan. 9 when law enforcement spotted Wilson riding a motorcycle at 96 mph in a 75 mph zone. Officers activated emergency lights, prompting Wilson to shift into the right lane; however, he failed to stop and instead led officers on a high-speed pursuit. Â
The chase came to an end near the San Patricio-Bee County border after Wilson lost control of the motorcycle and wrecked. Â
While awaiting an ambulance at the crash site, officers discovered a fully loaded pistol tucked inside Wilson’s jacket pocket. A detailed search uncovered two fully loaded .38-caliber magazines and 48.6 grams of methamphetamine inside his backpack, along with roughly 3.43 grams of methamphetamine in his front pants pocket. Â
Wilson remains in custody pending transfer to a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility. The case was investigated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations alongside the Texas Department of Public Safety. Assistant U.S. Attorney Yasmine K. Tucker prosecuted the case.
