BROWNSVILLE — Skidmore-Tynan closed the Brownsville Porter Tournament with a pair of wins Saturday, Aug. 22, defeating Brownsville Porter in three sets before sweeping Brownsville Hanna to win the Silver Bracket championship.
The Lady Cats finished the tournament 5-3. Alyssa Resio was named the Silver Bracket MVP.
Skidmore-Tynan opened Saturday with a 19-25, 25-17, 15-9 victory over Porter.
Samantha Sugarek led the Lady Cats with nine kills, while Audree Vasquez added eight and Solana Quintero finished with five. Elle Carriger had four kills.
Vasquez recorded 15 assists and 10 digs. Sugarek added seven assists and seven digs.
Resio anchored the defense with 16 digs, while Quintero had 13 and Vasquez finished with 10. Resio, Natalie Ramirez, Sugarek and Quintero each served one ace.
Lady Cats sweep Hanna for title
Skidmore-Tynan then defeated Hanna 25-18, 25-14 in the Silver Bracket championship match.
Vasquez led the attack with 11 kills on 25 attempts and hit .360. Sugarek added eight kills, Carriger had five and Quintero finished with four.
Sugarek handed out nine assists, while Vasquez recorded eight.
Resio produced a team-high 24 digs in the championship match. Vasquez added 16 digs, Ramirez had nine and Carriger finished with seven.
Carriger also contributed three blocks and one ace. Sugarek had one block, while Tinsley Zemanek and Whitney Thoms each added a block assist.
The Lady Cats finished with 29 kills and hit .209 as a team against Hanna.
Skidmore-Tynan won five of eight matches in the three-day tournament.
