CORPUS CHRISTI – The Sinton Lady Pirates won two of three matches Saturday and finished as the Bronze Bracket runner-up at the Corpus Christi ISD Spikefest.
Sinton swept San Antonio Brackenridge and survived a three-set match against Corpus Christi King before falling to the Corpus Christi Flour Bluff junior varsity in the bracket championship.
The Lady Pirates finished Saturday with a 2-1 record and moved to 4-4 on the season.
Sinton sweeps Brackenridge
Sinton opened bracket play with a 25-17, 25-12 victory over Brackenridge.
Ellissa Reagan led the Lady Pirates with six kills. Taylor Skrobarcek directed the offense with 10 assists.
Tiana Salone recorded five digs, followed by Peylynn Kenne and Reagan with four apiece.
Salone finished with two aces and three blocks. Skrobarcek contributed one ace and two blocks, while Reagan and Kenne served one ace each. Reagan also added one block.
Lady Pirates edge King
Sinton advanced to the Bronze Bracket championship with a 25-23, 14-25, 27-25 victory over King.
After splitting the opening two sets, the Lady Pirates prevailed in a back-and-forth deciding set that extended beyond the 25-point mark.
Reagan led Sinton with 14 kills. Gwenith Wittner contributed seven, while Salone added six.
Skrobarcek handed out 25 assists and served a team-high six aces.
Reagan, Wittner, Salone and Kenne recorded six digs apiece. Salone and Reagan each added two aces.
Reagan and Salone finished with 1½ blocks apiece.
Flour Bluff JV wins championship
The Flour Bluff junior varsity defeated Sinton 25-10, 25-23 in the Bronze Bracket final.
After dropping the opening set, the Lady Pirates challenged Flour Bluff throughout a close second set before falling by two points.
Reagan again led Sinton’s attack with seven kills, followed by Salone with five and Wittner with three.
Skrobarcek recorded 14 assists and five digs.
Salone led the defense with seven digs, while Reagan had six. Kenne and Skrobarcek added five digs apiece.
Wittner served Sinton’s two aces, and Salone recorded two blocks.
Reagan leads Sinton attack
Across Saturday’s three matches, Reagan totaled 27 kills, 16 digs, three aces and 2½ blocks.
Salone finished with 11 kills, 18 digs, four aces and 6½ blocks. Wittner recorded 10 kills, 12 digs and two aces.
Skrobarcek distributed 49 assists and served seven aces, while Kenne totaled 15 digs.
