THACKERVILLE, Okla. (KTEN) - “There’s going to be growing pains no doubt but on the other hand, there’s five of these kids that started last year for us too. It’s kind of a mixed bag, we’re really young but we’ve got a little bit of experience to go with it so we’ll just see how they grow and everything throughout the season.”
It may only be year two under Terry Felderhoff, but it’s safe to say that the head ball coach has won over the Wildcats locker room very quickly.
“Coach Felderhoff is not much of a coach but a father to us. He has helped us get better and over these two years a lot of us have gotten better and he’s just someone we look up to. He’s a really good coach.”
“I would say it’s a lot easier to remember the plays. I have been more confident in what I do because he teaches us more.”
Thackerville dropped down to Class C of 8 man football this year after going winless last season. It’s a drop in classification the Wildcats believe is for the best.
“Dropping down into class C we feel is where we should be enrollment wise. So just having more success than last year, and we will. Last year we were just decimated with injuries and few other things like that and now we feel like we are where we belong, where we can compete and we think we can compete well.”
So far through the first few days of fall practice, the Wildcats say one aspect of the team is standing out.
“Our defense has been on point. Last year we weren’t much of a tackling team but this year with all the practice we’ve had our defense is really looking a lot stronger than we were last year.”
Thackerville opens their season against Caddo on August 28th.
