(The Center Square) — Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont is asking state lawmakers to approve a plan to divert $5 million for assistance to Haitian immigrants facing deportation with temporary immigration protections now expired.

Lamont announced Thursday that he has submitted a fifth request to tap into the state’s recently created Federal Cuts Response Fund to support "Connecticut residents" affected by the Trump administration’s changes to Temporary Protected Status, including Haitian, Syrian, and other impacted individuals.
