The FBI Laboratory’s Technical Hazards Response Unit and Evidence Response Team Unit, along with experts from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s Team Adam, have provided detailed intelligence to help narrow down the search area. Law enforcement teams are targeting a 0.64-acre zone containing approximately 8,260 cubic yards of material. The Technical Hazards Response Unit is providing safety, medical, hazmat, and logistical support to manage the hazardous conditions, while the Evidence Response Team Unit and local field office members utilize specialized tools to identify, collect, and preserve evidence.
“The FBI is bringing in every potential resource we have to support local, state, and other federal law enforcement who will be on the ground here,” said Special Agent in Charge Jonathan Tapp of the FBI New Orleans Field Office. “The Technical Hazards Response Unit, the Evidence Response Team Unit, and Team Adam’s combined expertise will increase our chances at a successful search mission. The ultimate mission is to bring Ja’Derrius home to his family.”
This specialized federal deployment marks the first time these specific units have operated in Louisiana since the Jan. 1, 2025, terrorist attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. A large coalition of partners is assisting in the ongoing efforts, including the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police, Louisiana National Guard, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security.
